Intellidrive SM
IntelliDriveSM
Traffic crashes resulted in more than 41,000 lives lost in 2007 and contribute to traffic congestion and increased fuel consumption and emissions. IntelliDriveSM research is focused on preventing crashes by enabling active safety applications that rely on interoperable wireless communication among vehicles and with infrastructure elements, via an open communications platform. The wireless networking capabilities at the heart of IntelliDriveSM also support numerous mobility, environmental, and convenience applications.

Next Generation of GPS Devices Will Save More Fuel by Michael Graham Richard, Gatineau, Canada on 03.27.08 Cars & Transportation
Traffic jams, apart from being a major cause of lost productivity and frustration, are also a source of pollution and wasted fuel. Idling cars are getting zero miles per gallon. The Economist reports that technology might soon help drivers get where they are going in less time, and thus, burn less fuel.
GPS devices are already seeing rapid adoption, and they are helping, but they alone are not enough: Most use signposted speeds to calculate trip times, don't have real-time traffic data, and don't take into account the changes in traffic flows that occur on different days and at different times of the day (or because of special circumstances, such as accidents, bad weather, etc). ....read more

Transportation for Tomorrow
The US surface transportation system links Americans to each other and to the world. This enormous network of highways, ports, freight and passenger railroads and transit systems is vital to America’s economy, security and way of life. It is currently the best surface transportation system in the world – the challenge now is to ensure that it remains the best in the future.

4.4.3.1 Traveler Information-Related Functional Flow Diagrams
Traveler Information, one of the key components of any ITS regional deployment, depends on the coordination of multiple entities. The Functional Flow Diagrams presented in this section all revolve around how Traveler Information is and could be provided.
National ITS Architecture - New
NEW Version 6.0:
The National ITS Architecture provides a common framework for planning, defining, and integrating intelligent transportation systems. It is a mature product that reflects the contributions of a broad cross-section of the ITS community (transportation practitioners, systems engineers, system developers, technology specialists, consultants, etc.).
